Are you meeting your caloric needs? find out easy.

by on Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I came across this great vegetarian nutrition tool that provides caloric analysis based on the foods you eat daily. You simply enter in the food you eat daily and it breaks down for you the following factors:

  • calories
  • grams
  • fat
  • protein
  • carbs

It also figures out for you your sodium, cholesterol, and fiber intake, all of it based on the foods you have eaten for that day. The best part of this site is that it does all the math for you by analysing your meals and then it shows you whether you are meeting your suggested needs and you even get a nutrition grade, today i was goood, i got a B+.

My favorite pastry chef (o.k. she is the only pastry chef i know) but nonetheless my favorite, is up to her usual merry concoction making, this time its chocolate.

Jen sells excuse me she MAKES scrumptious vegan chocolate masterpieces to die for, so do pay her site a visit and get some animal-friendly cruelty-free chocolate goodies from her. Caution, looking at her blog long enough, will make you very very hungry for delicious sugary goods. You’ve been warned!

Her pastry shop is based in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Can you say Yum!

Update on the Vegetarian Chili

by on Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

My roommate was gracious enough last week to get me a book from my wishlist, entitled “Meatless Meals for Working People” and in it was a simple but hearty recipe for vegetarian chili, yes the one i posted about a few days ago, and today i attempted to make this meal for her and i. I decided to add some meatless crumbles from LightLife, so the total grams of protein came to about 16, not bad for chili. I think i could have added more chili powder than what is called for in the recipe and also more seasoning on the crumbles. This recipe makes for a tasty, quick, and easy low calorie vegetarian meal. See my pics of the finished meal.

by on Saturday, April 14th, 2007

If you are new to the vegetarian lifestyle and are seeking to stock-up on ingredients for your weekly or daily veggie-meals, a pit stop is in order at the following three national grocers known for their natural food offerings:

  • Whole Foods – 191 locations (US, Canada, UK) around since 1980, gained popularity in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
  • Wild Oats – is merging with Whole Foods, national grocer.
  • Trader Joe’s – available in 22 states.

The shops above all offer commercial and or independent vegan food products, most (but not all) have knowledgeable staff that you can ask questions to, and their prices are low to moderate.
