The Detox Mono Diet by Christopher Vasey

This book is a portmanteau, to borrow a handy word from Lewis Carroll, and misuse it slightly. It’s two books packed into one. There’s the real book, The Detox Mono Diet, and within it the entire text of Johanna Brandt’s classic The Grape Cure.

An introduction to the healing effects of fasting using just one type of food:

Includes Johanna Brandt’s grape cure with the author’s advice and commentary
Explains why mono diets are so effective at cleansing and restoring the internal cellular environment
Shows how to interpret your body’s signals to adapt the diet to your unique needs

Summary of the book description only, not medical advice.

What should I know about single-food diets before reading?

A mono diet limits you to one food, often a fruit, for a number of days. No single food provides all the nutrients a person needs. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends variety across vegetables, fruit, grains, protein foods and dairy or alternatives, which a one-food plan cannot match.

The NIH detox and cleanse summary from NCCIH warns that very restrictive diets rarely bring weight loss that lasts and can leave out nutrients you need. It also points out that some juices are high in oxalate, which matters for people who form kidney stones.

An older “classic” included in a book can be an interesting piece of history, but age does not make a claim true. Speak with your doctor before any restrictive plan, especially if you have diabetes, kidney problems or are pregnant.
